Why Do I Need a New Chimney Liner?

There are a few big reasons why you might need a new chimney liner for your flue.

• You don’t have a liner at all. Believe it or not, there are many old chimneys that were never lined in the first place. If this is the case for you, do not use your fireplace until a liner can be installed. Doing so will put your household at great risk.
• Your current liner isn’t correctly fitted. If your liner wasn’t installed properly, there’s a good chance your efficiency levels are low and that buildup is forming in places it shouldn’t be. It won’t be long before the liner – along with other parts of your chimney – breaks down.
• Your clay liner is cracked or crumbling. If you currently have a clay liner that’s missing tiles or severely damaged, replacing it with a stainless steel liner is a great solution for getting your chimney back in working order.
• You have drafting problems. An incorrectly-sized flue can have a negative impact on how well your system drafts. One that’s correctly-sized (and especially one that’s insulated) will work wonders when it comes to keeping smoke out of your living space.

No matter your situation, running a fireplace with a missing or broken flue liner makes your home and fireplace much more susceptible to damage, as well as increasing your risk of fire hazards and gas leaks.
